Ban the glowstick

Gail Calderon

OGDENVILLE — Controversy erupted at last week’s state fair. During the elementary school band contest, one of the entrant schools was catapulted to the winner’s circle with the aid of coloured glowsticks.

Props are expressly forbidden; schools should win based on the merit of their performance alone. Some insist that the team should not be disqualified because of the glowsticks: “I saw a kid in the audience with a stick, and he didn’t win anything. Why should we be disqualified because we held up sticks?”

Now there is a call for the ban of the sale of glowsticks on state fair grounds. “It would only be proper in light of the recent mishap” says one state fair employee, “we don’t want a lawsuit hovering over us”.
