Ogdenville Train Station Closing

OGDENVILLE — Ogdenville Train Station will bid farewell to its final visitors almost eighty years after the 1928 grand opening.

The station has been in finiancial distress for the past decade, but has held on through insurmountable odds. OTS owner Thomas Tanner comments, “it will be a very sad day indeed when that last train leaves for Clarksville”.

Bertha Thackery was there in 1928 to see the first train leave the station. “My father worked in North Haverbrook, so for many years I would visit the Ogdenville Station to see him off. It’s a shame to see it close down, this station is an important part of our city’s history”.

This story is especially close to the hearts of those of us at the Ogdenville Morning Gazette. The very first issue of the Gazette featured a story on the train station and it has been honoured in various issues through the years. If you wish to witness this historical event, the last train will be leaving at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday afternoon and arriving in Clarksville at 4:30 p.m.
